About the Owners

Jason Waddingham

From the small town of Sheldon, Iowa, Jason's earliest memories are steeped in the smell of wood shavings and the sound of chopping wood alongside his father. This early exposure laid the groundwork for a lifelong passion for woodworking.

Enlisting in the Marine Corps at 18, Jason served for four years and graduated from Clemson University before embarking on a 24-year journey with Choate Construction Company, where he honed his project management skills. His transition from the structured world of construction to the creative realm of woodworking at Sunshine Acres is a testament to his adaptability and vision.

Kara Rae Waddingham

Kara’s story started in Silver Lake, Ohio, but her heart found its true home in the countryside alongside Jason. As an outdoor enthusiast, Kara has embraced the rustic lifestyle with open arms. With degrees in chemistry, advanced math and operations management and rich background as a chemist and quality manager, Kara brings a meticulous eye for detail and a scientific approach to their ventures, balancing Jason's artistic vision with precision and care.

At Waxhaw Woodworks at Sunshine Acres, everything we do, from firewood and cooking wood to drying and woodworking, writes a new chapter in Jason and Kara's ongoing story.
